In 1979 Charlie designed and built the first machined aluminum cam style quick releases for the seatposts and Slo-Releases for the wheels on his personal bikes. His light, smooth acting quick release design was adopted almost universally on road bikes and mountain bikes. It replaced the heavy steel quick release that was used on road wheels from the days of Tulio Campagnolo.
