Charlie was the first to recognize the advantages of angular contact cartridge bearings for bicycle components. He was behind the WTB designs that used such bearings in hubs, headsets and bottom brackets. Charlie wrote most of the educational and promotion materials that would convince the industry of the advantages. Previously, only radial cartridge bearings were available to the bicycle industry, limiting performance and life expectancy of bearing components. Now angular contact cartridge bearings are widely used by top bicycle component manufacturers.
